Can you guess what % of Americans have high blood pressure?

Nearly 1/3 of us! That’s according to researchers at the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, part of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

This means that 67 million Americans are at an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and more.

From data collected through telephone surveys by state health departments across the country, scientists found that blood pressure was higher among seniors, men, blacks and those with less education compared to younger people, women, Asians and people with higher levels of education.

Fortunately, high blood pressure is largely preventable. Preventive steps you can take include: manage your weight, stop smoking, drink alcohol only in moderation, avoid too much sodium and fats in the diet, and exercise regularly.
